Routine preventive care, like a dental exam or teeth cleaning, is essential to protecting your smile from tooth decay and gum disease. Unlike most cities in the US, tap water in Washoe County is not fluoridated. This can cause some of our patients and their children to experience weaker enamel. If necessary, Dr. Paschal will prescribe fluoridated tablets or rinse for you and your family.
Keeping Your Smile Clean
Our hygienists will work with you to tailor a brushing and flossing routine that helps you prevent cavities, which lead to bone loss. If you have signs of bleeding or hypersensitivity, it could be due to gum disease.
Dr. Paschal recommends a teeth cleaning and check-up every 6 months for most patients. We take digital x-rays to screen for signs of bone loss, decay, and periodontal disease.
Waterpik Water Flosser
Dental technology has significantly improved how we can help keep our teeth and gums healthy at home. Beyond toothbrushes and floss, many of our patients have found the Waterpik Water Flosser to be a vital tool to keep their smiles healthy and beautiful.
Waterpiks are also ideal for patients who have sensitive teeth or gums and those with traditional metal braces, since the water can reach behind braces and flush away bits of food brushing alone can't reach. Patients who deal with gum disease are also ideal candidates for using a Waterpik, as it can remove bacteria and food particles from deep gum pockets better than dental floss alone.
Remember that tartar and plaque are nearly impossible to avoid completely, so don’t forget to schedule regular checkups and teeth cleaning with Dr. Paschal to make sure your smile stays healthy!
