Simple Tooth Extractions
When your tooth is too badly decayed to save, Dr. Paschal will perform a simple tooth extraction. An extraction may also be recommended by our West Reno dental team if your tooth is severely fractured or is crowding other healthy teeth.
Wisdom Teeth Removal
Not all wisdom teeth need to be extracted, but many do. If your wisdom teeth are impacted, put you at risk for infection, or are starting to cause pain and inflammation in your gums, you may be a candidate for wisdom teeth removal surgery. In most situations, Dr. Paschal prefers to remove your wisdom teeth before they begin to damage your healthy teeth and gums.
If you are considering wisdom teeth removal surgery, our dental team will use digital x-rays to view your entire jaw, so we can see the size, location, and developmental trajectory of your wisdom teeth prior to surgery. At the earliest, wisdom teeth are removed in the mid-teen years, but third molars often do not finish developing until you are closer to 30 years of age.
Periodontal disease can cause the bone in your jaw to weaken over time. A healthy, strong jaw bone is essential to preserving your oral health and it is even more important for patients who want to use dental implants as a permanent solution to their tooth loss. Your jaw bone needs to be strong enough to support a dental implant before surgery begins.
In cases like this, we will often recommend bone grafting (also known as natural bone regeneration) to promote healthy bone growth and help thicken your jawbone. Over time, your jawbone will naturally regenerate and become strong enough to support a dental implant.
An alveoplasty surgery is performed when a your jawbone needs to be smoothed or reshaped following tooth loss or the extraction of one or more teeth. Alveoplasty can either be performed on its own, or as part of a tooth extraction by Dr. Paschal.
This surgery will optimally shape your jaws to better support dentures, minimizing your future discomfort and maximizing retainment of your oral prosthesis.
