Tooth Extractions in West Reno, NV

West Reno Dental, your local West Reno dentist, strives to make every effort possible to save your smile. But if a tooth is so badly decayed or infected that it can’t be restored, he recommends having a tooth extraction.

“We extract teeth that are hopeless; when there’s no chance of saving them.”

If a root canal, filling, or dental crown cannot restore your tooth, the only option left is tooth extraction. Fortunately, the procedure is far less painful than it has ever been before, thanks to powerful anesthetics and sedatives. In most cases, our patients are able to have the tooth pulled with little or no discomfort.

What to Expect During a Tooth Extraction

First, we numb the area around the tooth with a topical and/or injectable anesthetic. Then, the tooth is gently rocked back and forth to loosen it, so that it can be lifted away from where it sits. In some cases, we may recommend taking an antibiotic to clear up any infection that you are currently experiencing (or to avoid one from developing after the procedure). After the extraction, be sure to avoid drinking through a straw, consuming carbonated beverages, smoking, or vigorous brushing and rinsing. These could potentially hinder the healing process, open the wound, or cause a dry socket.

If you experience any discomfort, apply a cold compress to the side of the face to reduce swelling and promote faster healing. Be sure to call us today, should you experience prolonged pain, swelling, or signs of infection.
