Dental Extractions in Reno, NV

Dental Extractions in Reno, NV

Although we take a conservative approach to protect your natural teeth no matter what, sometimes severe dental problems make it difficult or even impossible to save them. So, we have to figure out another solution — extractions.

We have dental experts that take special measures to provide you with a safe and infection-free extraction experience. We also ensure that you stay comfortable during the whole procedure with our sedation procedure.

When Would You Need Dental Extractions?

Extractions are required due to the following reasons:

  • When you have an impacted wisdom tooth
  • Broken, chipped, or cracked tooth
  • Infected teeth
  • Misaligned teeth
  • Severe tooth decay
  • Periodontitis (severe gum disease)
  • Preparing for a prosthetic like dentures
  • Preparing for orthodontic treatment

Procedure Involved in Tooth Extractions

Before commencing with the extraction procedure, our professional dentist will numb the surrounding area of the to-be-extracted tooth using sedation. While the extraction procedure is on, you might feel pressure because the dentist will gently move the tooth to broaden the socket.

Sometimes, some teeth need to be removed in sections. We do it when your teeth are firmly anchored in their roots or sockets. We just cut the tooth into sections and remove each of them one at a time.

Aftercare Instructions

After the numbing effect has worn off, you might experience pain and discomfort. For this, we always prescribe over-the-counter painkillers and even instruct you to apply an ice pack outside your cheek. Also, for 24 hours, you should:

  • Avoid consumption of alcohol and using tobacco
  • Eat soft foods
  • Abstain from sucking through a straw or spitting
  • Drink plenty of liquids
  • Select the alternative side for chewing the food

After one day has passed, you can continue eating foods you think are suitable for your teeth or which make you comfortable. You can brush and floss your teeth as usual but be more careful at the extraction site. Use warm salt water two to three times a day for rinsing your mouth. It will clean your mouth and prevent any kind of bacteria.
